Lyras’ systems are designed to treat liquids ranging from high to low transparency. We specialize in the treatment of enzymes, juice, and dairy products but are also experienced in treating non-food liquids such as blood plasma for animal feed.
A raslysation system uses disinfecting light, whereas a pasteurizer relies on heat to inactivate harmful food-borne bacteria and spoilage organisms.
The patented raslysation technology merely consists of the raslysation system and a feed unit - thus removing the need for any additional equipment usually related to pasteurization.

HPP is a non-thermal food preservation technique that kills microorganisms. It uses intense pressure for a certain period and has minimal effects on taste, texture, appearance, and nutritional values. However, HPP has a high energy usage and is only capable of treating products in batches. In the cases where raslysation can replace HPP, liquids are processed at a fraction of the cost and energy of HPP .
According to the research carried out by EFSA (The European Food Safety Authority) regarding Dairy Crest and vitamin D enrichment, it is safe to use UV-C for treatment of milk. Where legal approval is not identified for certain purposes or in certain countries, the possibility of meeting or changing regulations will be pursued
With Lyras’ patented raslysation system comes benefits including increased resource efficiency, improved product quality, and long shelf life, ultimately constituting a more sustainable treatment solution. Read about more benefits here.
Opacity has previously been the challenge of using UV light in liquid treatment as the light has not been able to penetrate opaque liquids. This factor poses a challenge because, for it to be effective, all bacteria in the liquid must be illuminated by UV light. Therefore, a product with low transparency, such as milk, is harder to treat than, for example, water.
We at Lyras have solved this challenge with our patented system – the Raslysation™ Sirius. The unique design geometry of the flagship creates a turbulent flow to ensure that the entire volume of liquid is exposed to UV light. This technique solves the challenge of UV treatment and constitutes a greener, more energy-efficient processing method.
With the raslysation technique, Lyras can treat various products with different viscosity and transparency levels, such as whey, brine, juice, mixers, process water etc.

Lyras’ raslysation technology is an energy-efficient treatment solution that reduces energy consumption by 60-90%. The method also reduces water usage by 60-80%, almost eliminating water waste.
Conventionally, pasteurization processes involve the use of fossils fuels, which have a negative impact on the global carbon footprint. Lyras’ raslysation technology, on the other hand, only uses electricity and allows for a greener production with the potential of running entirely on renewable energy. Consequently, Lyras’ raslysation technology contributes to bringing down the global CO2 emissions as the solution ensures sustainable production patterns with a lower carbon footprint than conventional pasteurization.
